Confirmation
Each new block built on top of the one containing your transaction.
A transaction gets its first confirmation when it lands in a block, and one more with every block mined afterwards. More confirmations mean more accumulated work sitting on top of it.
Exchanges commonly require three to six confirmations for Bitcoin deposits, which is why withdrawals do not always arrive instantly.
