HODL
Holding through volatility rather than trading in and out.
HODL began as a typo in a 2013 forum post by a trader declaring he would not sell during a crash. It stuck, and was later backronymed to “hold on for dear life”.
As a strategy it is a bet that long-term appreciation outweighs the drawdowns endured along the way, and it demands a position size you can actually sit through.
