Treasuries fund development, grants, audits and liquidity incentives. They are usually held in a multisig or governed contract, and their balances are publicly visible.

A treasury heavily weighted in the project’s own token is far less robust than one holding stablecoins, since its value falls exactly when funding is most needed.
