The total value of assets deposited in a protocol or across a chain.
Total value locked is DeFi’s headline size metric, summing everything sitting in a protocol’s contracts at current prices.
It can be misleading. It rises when prices rise without any new deposits, and double counting is common where one protocol’s receipt tokens are deposited into another.
