Validator

A proof-of-stake participant that proposes and attests to blocks using bonded collateral.

Mining & Consensus Also called validators

Validators replace miners on proof-of-stake chains. They run node software continuously and put up a stake that can be reduced if they go offline or sign conflicting data.

Running an Ethereum validator requires 32 ETH, which is why pooled and liquid staking services exist for smaller holders. Validators earn a yield paid from issuance and transaction fees.
