Interoperability

The ability of separate blockchains to exchange assets and data.

Blockchain Technology Also called cross-chain, interoperable

Interoperability covers the protocols and standards that let chains talk to each other, whether through bridges, messaging layers or shared security models like Cosmos IBC and Polkadot parachains.

Without it, liquidity fragments across dozens of isolated networks. With it, the attack surface widens considerably, so the trade-off is a live design debate.
