Locking tokens to help secure a proof-of-stake network in return for yield.

Mining & Consensus Also called stake, staked

Staking means committing tokens as collateral so they can back a validator’s work. In exchange the holder receives a share of network rewards, quoted as an annual percentage yield.

Staked funds are usually subject to an unbonding period before they can be withdrawn, and they remain exposed to price movement. The yield is not risk-free income; it is payment for taking on protocol and lock-up risk.
