Separately, another account noted that the assailant bought about 16 trillion TONIC across three VVS liquidity pools using approximately $600,000 in USDC and CRO, which drove TONIC’s price up by about 40%.
The attacker then transferred those tokens into Tectonic alongside roughly $5 million in USDC. Following two preliminary test loans, the bad actor reportedly pushed through a single transaction valued at approximately $120 million.
That transaction allegedly extracted USDC, USDT, WBTC, WETH, and CRO from Tectonic lending markets. Researcher Awoo estimated the perpetrator risked about $5.6 million of their own capital during the exploit, while copycat actors subsequently managed to siphon around $2 million.
